Any fans of this American singer, who was one of Mitch Miller's less successful proteges? I think he had hits in the US with Down Yonder and I Apologise. Funnily enough he duetted with another second-division Columbia star, Toni Arden. He has a very nice voice IMO.

Children's Annual Puzzles

When I was very young there used to be many puzzles in between the stories and pictures in children's annuals by way of variety. The popular one I remember was of a word picture puzzle which consisted of a page of small illustrations, say of something like an arrow, and then above it a large letter N - so the word became "narrow".
Perhaps a picture of a book with the letter B scratched out and a letter L put in its place - making "look".
This sort of thing...

I realised today that the school holidays are starting which means six weeks of pure hell! I wish there were countrywide 'kid katchers' instead of dog catchers! I used to enjoy school holidays when my two were young but now I suffer so much aggro from the neighbours kids, it almost leaves me suicidal! I've already had them playing...

According to a newspaper report homeowners must let council inspectors in to check everything from pot plants to fridges.
A report in The Sun say a list of 1043 powers of entry, bought in by Labour ministers, were released by the Home Office.

The checks include: keeping rabbits, too high hedges, whether your fridge has the correct EU energy rating and I kid you not - a sweep to see if you have weapons of mass destruction! You can be fined if you refuse...

Benefit claimants could be forced to pick up litter and erase graffiti under plans to be unveiled by ministers.

The Welfare Green Paper is set to include proposals to force those unemployed for more than two years to work full-time in the community.

Incapacity benefit will be scrapped as part of a scheme to get more people claiming the benefit back to work.

Minister James Purnell says the plans are "revolutionary". The Tories...

While researching the answer to Willam's posting. Well, looking through Roy Hudd's Cavalcade of Variey Acts, if that can be called research. I came across an act I recall that would sometimes pop up on the likes of Sunday Night At the London Palladium. It was Terri Carol. Her speciality was paper tearing. She would take a roll of paper and turn it into a tree or a ladder that would reach up to the top of the prscenium arch.

Hi, Can anyone help. Looking for the title of a British "B" movie of the mid fifties. Remember it was about motor racing, involved a severe accident & also had a supernatural theme. I remember a scene on top of an old castle . Think it was called "Circle of Fear/Danger", Wheel of Danger/Fear". Also I remember it starred a fairly famous British "B" movie actor. Anyone help??

I have just remembered for no apparent reason, an act which used to crop up on the odd occasion in fifties television variety shows. A man and a woman who were known as Apache dancers would gyrate sensuously around the stage in a manner which woud now have the politically correct brigade foaming at the mouth.
The act consisted of a man dressed in a French style beret and a closely striped sweater, possibly with a kerchief around his neck. He would dance with a a girl dressed as some kind...
