On BBC4 tonight from 9pm onwards some of the old Christmas varitety shows are being repeated (Andy Williams, Val Doonican ) and if you stay up to around 2am you can see an old Lulu show from the sixties with the Everly Brothers as guest stars. Or you can go to bed.

I have just learned of the death of Pat Keysell, presenter of many programmes for the deaf, notably 'Vision On' with Tony Hart. Her involvement with the BBC began in 1952.

Novelty Act

There used to be a novelty act in the late 50 to early 60s. I am not sure if he was a magician or not. What he used to do was take the shirts of people. He also used to take their tie off or steal their watch. There would be an element of surprise when he did any of these things. Anyone recall him?

Does anyone recall a short Christmas film based on the song The Twelve Days of Christmas?
It was featured most Christmas Eves or Christmas Days on BBC TV during the 1950s, and possibly the early 1960s.
It featured a young Edwardian man on a penny farthing bicycle, visiting his lady love at her home in a snow-filled city street.

I have seen this film a number of times ,but it brought to mind that being a play originally, I am sure I saw it done as a tv play in the 50s on the BBC maybe a couple of versions were done.Gordon Jackson comes to mind, but maybe I am thinking of his repeat performance in the Hammer film version of the tv play YESTERDAYS ENEMYwhich I remember seeing one Monday night.Anyone put me right.

Anyone know the circumstances of the death of this actor ,I understand he died outside his home in London. He was about to play the part of Quatermass for the 2nd time,what were the newspaper reports at the time? Did it make headlines ? He was a pretty established actor at the time. Did he have any children?

Sure Benny often revamped old sketches year after year, but then some comedians tell the same jokes show after show, as for the scantily clad girls surely they knew what they were doing , now I hear that Benny wont be on royal mail stamps?

Caught an episode of On The Buses this evening,from way back when it was in black & white.Throughout the show,I kept trying to figure out who the actress was playing Mum.I knew it wasn't Doris Hare although the lines were delivered the same way.It wasn't until the credits rolled at the end when it was revealed that Mum was played by Cicely Courtnidge!! Such a surprise! This episode must have been from right back at the beginning of the series because the later ones with Doris Hare...

Recovered by the BFI are:
tx: 06.07.67 & 27.7.67. About 20 mins of each show exists. Both are hosted by Alan Freeman.
Both feature constant rolling as the original tape was very badly damaged. Perhaps at any given time you only get about a minute of unsullied footage but it is very valuable as a record of what the Pink Floyd looked...

Just the other day 22 October was the 54th anniversary of the first episode of QUATERMASS II. does anyone remember something about the BBC going to recreate a scene from THE QUATERMASS EXPERIMENT some time back for some sort of drama play, I vaguely recall this but cant remember where I read it? On Saturday, October the 24th, an announcement on the Bob Monkhouse Collection will be made at the 'Bob's Full House' event to be held by the BAFTA organization in London. Interestingly enough, it is thirty years ago (1979) when Bob Monkhouse won his case on appeal with respect to ownership of his collection. I think this site is brilliant and full of the programs i grew up watching as a child in the 50's. I've just joined this forum and hope someone can help me out! I can remember The Peter Scott wild life program called "Look"? Can anyone tell me what this program's theme music was or even better where i might be able to get hold of a copy.
