The Magic Circle will be celebrating the 100th. anniversary of the birth of the television magician Robert Harbin in February 2009. They are trying to find out whether the puppet 'Fuzz' as seen in the picture below is still in existence. Another forgotten variety act

While researching the answer to Willam's posting. Well, looking through Roy Hudd's Cavalcade of Variey Acts, if that can be called research. I came across an act I recall that would sometimes pop up on the likes of Sunday Night At the London Palladium. It was Terri Carol. Her speciality was paper tearing. She would take a roll of paper and turn it into a tree or a ladder that would reach up to the top of the prscenium arch.

I have just remembered for no apparent reason, an act which used to crop up on the odd occasion in fifties television variety shows. A man and a woman who were known as Apache dancers would gyrate sensuously around the stage in a manner which woud now have the politically correct brigade foaming at the mouth.
The act consisted of a man dressed in a French style beret and a closely striped sweater, possibly with a kerchief around his neck. He would dance with a a girl dressed as some kind...

Best known for his television work with Tony Hancock and Terry Scott.

I must have seen this but I cannot remember it . It's a blank! Serial on Children's TV - followed "Cabin In The Clearing" in 1954.
Starred Diana Day. Ron Moody was in it as a character called Puffin and there was another character called Uncle Porteous.
Does anyone recall this at all?

Diana Day - She was also Jimmy Clitheroe's sister in "The Clitheroe Kid".

I dont think this comedian has been discussed on here before. - Dickie Henderson.
Slick, slightly Americanised manner as opposed to most British stand up. stage comedians of the time. For some unknown reason I never took to him. I never found him particularly funny either but he used to go down well with audiences and for a while compered Sunday Night At The London Palladium.
Slick patter, quite light on his feet, danced a little and sang a little too. What I particularly remember...

Prompted by my (possibly false) memory of him on a show mentioned on another thread - "Stars and Garters".
I dont think he's ever been mentioned on the board since I've been here. Worth a mention I think.
He was on film and TV a lot in the fifties.

I doubt that anyone who grew up in the 1950s could fail to be instantly transported back to childhood cosiness by this You Tube clip.

It's not so much the spooky batswing logo and clock that start the clip (since we didn't have telly at home in the 50s, I saw it only very very occasionally) as the programme opening that follows -- "Farming: for those who live by the land".

I dont think I've ever seen this before. I never knew the man you worked with used to apply Joan Crawford's lipstick. In fact I once worked with a man who was nicknamed Flying Officer Kyte but I never realised at the time the connection with Humprey Lestocq who played the part in "Waterlogged Spa". I thought it was just an old RAF nickname for anyone with a handlebar moustache.
