			<description><![CDATA[ I've been thinking about how the different UK charts dealt with double A-sides in the 50s and I must admit I've reached something of a quandary over whether to use the NME charts untouched as the definitive charts up to 1960.<br><br>Before 1956, the NME always listed each side of a double A-side single separately on the chart, with the sole exception of the Rosemary Clooney/Jos Ferrer hit from 1954. This would seem to be a reasonable exception, as both sides were effectively the same song... ]]></description>

			<description><![CDATA[ In October 1956, the BBC's Pick Of The Pops, which had already existed for a year, began a chart countdown using a chart compiled by the BBC from the three existing charts compiled by the New Musical Express, Record Mirror and Melody Maker. <br><br>The chart was a Top 30 compiled using a points system whereby the singles in the NME Top 30 were awarded 30 points for the #1, 29 for the #2, and so on down to 1 point for the #30.
