I've been watching this film this afternoon while doing a pile of ironing. I know it's been mentioned quite a few times in relation to other threads but I've started another one.

Does anyone know offhand if Mary Steele is doing her own singing in the film? The voice does sound familiar.

Just looking at the Eric Polhmann topics great reliable actor just like all those others of the 40s 50s 60s etc; But here I go again can anyone help with my search for information on another British stalwart. RICHARD SHAW he always played a toughie, he is best remembered as Sladden in tvs QUATERMASS AND THE PIT. he was the coalman in the Steptoe episode IS THAT YOUR HORSE OUTSIDE . But I always draw a blank on this guy, no date of birth, death. He later appeared in Corrie as Bet Lynchs...

Black Knight (1954)

I've just watched most of this film and it must be one of the worst costume films of all time.

Alan Ladd is far too old for the part and is monosyllabic throughout. His height keeps changing alarmingly depending on how deep the ditch or how high the box is he standing on.

I usually love this sort of hokum but even I was laughing out loud.

But at least I found out how Stonehenge ended up a ruin, I think

Mrs Brown made me giggle this afternoon when she was watching an old fifties film on TV. The film was "Timber Jack" (1955) with Sterling Hayden starring. Nice Montana scenery and filmed in the relatively rare
"Trucolor".
She called me in and asked me if the leading lady was Yvonne De Carlo. " No, its certainly not her", I replied
and reminded myself to pay a visit with Mrs B to Specsavers as said actress looked as much like the divine Yvonne as...

Treated myself to the DVD of this film this week and thoroughly enjoyed it. The usual excellent performance from Stanley Baker as a tough Mancunian detective, plus a great supporting cast which included Donald Pleasance (pre Great Escape), Warren Mitchell (pre Alf Garnett), Billie Whitelaw and Maxine Audley. There was the inevitable token Yank in the guise of John Crawford playing the villain, but I must admit I never realized he was actually an American in this role. I must give a mention...

I watched this gem of a film on Film 4 this afternoon, I have seen it umpteen times and never tire of seeing it. A real feel good factor pic with top notch acting from Ann Sheridan and Steve Cochran playing a 'goodie' for a change and proving what an excellent actor he was. If anybody doesn't have a lump in their throat watching the final scene they should check for a pulse.

Is anyone a fan of his?

I watched him in the film 'Forbidden' recently and although he plays the fast talking wideboy very well, I just can't take to him somehow. He was around a lot in '50s and I remember him appearing in 'Film Fun' comic but he dosen't seem to be remembered with the same affection as some of the other comedy stars of the time.

I know my Mum never liked him so maybe I just picked up on that.

Did anyone see this film. It was yesterday morning and I recorded it to watch last night. I had never seen it before. What a great film it was too. Bogart and Gloria Grahame. Snappy dialogue and a good supporting cast. What more could one ask for?
