....this issue is December 1949 but I know it was still being published in 1951.

It is a great magazine featuring Cinema, Stage, Radio, Music, Records, Sport, etc.

It had two sister magazines, Courier and To-Day.  I certainly don&#39;t remember it but 1/6 was maybe a lot to pay in those days.

			<description><![CDATA[ <p>Did anybody read any books by Frank Crisp in the 50s? I remember reading several of his sea stories including The Sea Robbers, The Haunted Reef, The Sea Ape
and The Coral Wreck. They were rip-roaring, Boys Own type adventure stories but with a very authentic details of life at sea. He also wrote a couple of good
historical novels The Golden Quest and The Weird Archer. Possibly the book I enjoyed most of his was The Adventure of Whaling which though classed as a novel

			<description><![CDATA[ I don&#39;t think this author has been mentioned before. He wrote in many genres. His main theme was black magic. Howver he did write other types of novels
including crime novels. Some of these were done in the form of case notes in a folder.I used to like his black magic books. A couple were turned into films but
as is the case of many novels turned into films I always felt they didn&#39;t work as well as the novels. ]]></description>

			<title><![CDATA[ Commando magazine ]]></title>

			<description><![CDATA[ The post on the Western stories  reminded me of those other little Comic/books thyat were popular for fifties school kids and it seems they are still going 
strong.  The one I recall is Commando magazine and  here is a little pastiche of the artwork which some may recall. I remember that when a &#39;jerry&#39; or
&#39;jap&#39;  was shot  they all bubbled the scream &quot;Aieeee!2 or something like it. I loved &#39;em when I was a kid anyway.

			<description><![CDATA[ I was in a charity shop last week browsing the books. This particular shop keeps all it&#39;s books in alphabetical order. A man standing next to me with a
list of authors he was looking for. The top author on his list was Eric Ambler. Noticing this I struck up a conversation with him. You&#39;ll be lucky to find
him here I said, his books are a little out of date these days. You need to find a bookshop with scruffy books and who don&#39;t care about the age of them.

They were excellent value and the books were all the best titles. Paul Brickhill books like The Dam Busters, Or The Kon-Tiki Expedition or novels from the likes of Victor Canning.
