BBC has been triumphing over the success of its long running Hospital Drama 'Casualty' recently by combining its sister show 'Holby City' and also going 'interactive' with its audience to help or suggest plot line outcomes.
However, way before that in the early days of British TV, ITV through I think, the old ATV company had 'Emergency Ward 10'.
It was Britain's first twice-weekly hospital drama, 'Emergency Ward 10,' that ran from 1957 to 1967 and starred Jill Browne as Nurse Carole Browne and Desmond Carrington as Dr Chris Anderson, had a keen following.
Then Police series were another firm favourite and still are with todays with television audiences today it is 'The Bill'. Back then some of the most popular were Dixon Of Dock Green ( discussed on this site many times), that ran for 21 years until it finished in 1976. Then there was Fabian of Scotland Yard and No Hiding Place, launched in 1959 and starring Raymond Francis and Johnny Briggs as well as Maigret.
Johhny Briggs of course is still on our screens as Mike Baldwin in ITV's long running Coronation Street. Desmond Carrington is now ensconced in Scotland where each Sunday afternoon he broadcasts his BBC Radio 2 programme.
I wonder, how many more of these pioneering actors from TV's early days of broadcasting in the 50's are still active on our TV screens and Radios ? and also what became of Jill Browne ?
