This is what a 1956 West End stage revue must have looked and sounded like with the earliest film records we have of Georgia Brown, Sally Baseley, Sheila O'Neill ....
It’s a total gem. Such a period piece, and a totally unique chance to see Brown, O’Neill and Green (and the others) so early in their careers. The colour is superb, the sound quality glorious.. As with the Harmony Close (?) film, from 1953 the BFI has played a key role in its restoration and presentation.
The BFI web page says that this was the first UK colour musical to be filmed in Scope format - not strictly correct !
1955 saw the release of the CinemaScope films of Kings Rhapsody, Oh Rosalinda !! and Gentleman Marry Brunettes (US financed and filmed in UK studios)
