A Kiss Before Dying |

Watched this pic this afternoon on telly, first saw it over 50 years ago and remembered it had a theme song over the credits which unfortunately I missed ,
today that is. I googled and found the singer was Dolores Hawkins, anyone know of her? I must admit that I have never heard of her before.

I don't know her at all, Clemmy.
I watched the film too, a very stylish film I thought - it looked very '50s America. There is an album here http://www.jazzcat-record.com/temp.html |

Thats some list of female artists Judy, thanks. The Denise Darcel and Lola Albright albums look interesting, I have the Rhonda one but let the Maureen
O'Hara one go
Stephen you are not thinking of the inferior 90s remake by any chance?

That site is very interesting Judy. It goes to show how much isn't going into car boot and attic sales! I was saying to a friend only last night that when
you consider all the albums made in the 60s you very rarely see them at car boots. Where have they gone to? Are they being dumped by people who don't
realise the value or that some of us are looking for them?
On a point about the film, I was surprised as to how much hissing noise there was on the soundtrack. |

Twenty-three Paces to Baker Street (1956) | ||

Sorry to go off tack slightly but there is another US film from 1956 showing on TV this which I enjoyed when I last saw it in 1995. 'Twenty-three Paces to
Baker Street' was an American production starring Van Johnson and Vera Miles but has some British actors/actresses including Cecil Parker, Patricia Laffan,
Maurice Denham and Estelle Winwood. Of course, its all a matter of opinion but I thought it was good. Check it out on Film 4, Wednesday at 5.10pm.

I watched 'A Kiss Before Dying' and it was good (I liked the clever twist in the story, which was a feature of the period). The students looked and
sounded as though they were keen on the pursuit of knowledge - yet another feature of the era and one recognizable to myself.
Certainly looked '50s America and, as usual, the actresses were dressed in style, but then, this was the era when women wore gloves and dressed 'like they were worth a million dollars'. . Wish we had screen heroines like that in today's audio-visual world. Yours, ANDy |

I've watched that 23 Paces film a number of times but only because parts of it were filmed in areas of London with which I'm very familiar. But the
actual plot and its subsequent resolution have always been a bit hard for me to swallow. Just can't see some aspects of the story ever happening in real
life although I guess anything's possible. Also. I have to smile at the scene where Vera Miles is telling Van Johnson, who is both blind and an American,
what a golly is. Definitely a reminder of those days before political correctness became a part of life.
