Died on this date:
Pat Garrett - 1908 As you would expect on a date that comes around only every 4 years, there aren't too many notables to list. However, Pat Garrett, who allegedly shot Billy the Kid, was, himself, shot exactly 100 years ago today. He makes a suitable entry to mark my last regular listing on this thread. It's been fun . . . . but it's time to bow out. Just as Pat Garrett did 100 years ago!"! Best wishes folks. |

Thanks Kenny for all that work....I do miss it though.
I don't suppose you'd reconsider? |

Thanks for the comment Rennay. It's much appreciated.
I've no problem with resurrecting the thread at some time in the future and would like to do so. However, I was reliant on Wendy for such things as birthdays and banter!! I merely specialised in death dates! At the moment Wendy is tied up with other things. I'm confident, however, that she will be back before too long. When that happens Rennay, I'm sure something can be arranged. Between you and me, I just think Wendy has taken a sabatical so as to invent a whole catalogue of new, obscure names of fashion models and bimbettes!!!! |

Oy I heard that! I don't need to invent anything because you already do enough floundering around with already well established names.

Jeeeez!!! I thought you were out of earshot for a while!!
I'll await your resurrection with enthusiasm Wendy and will, in the meanwhile, miss the lists of bimbettes!!! While I'm here, it would be remiss of me not to note that the very beautiful Ann Sothern died on the Ides of March in 2001. |

Today is the birthday of Barbara Bonney. Many, more qualified than
I, will say that Barbara is the greatest lyric soprano alive today. Furthermore, she has become a great favourite on these boards. We wish her a very happy
birthday. She was born in 1956 in the USA and trained in Canada.
Many thanks for all the wonderful music Barbara.

For The Good Times | ||
|
Well. after I got up off the floor and managed to stop choking and spluttering, here's a list of "the Good Times".
Bernie Ecclestone's ciggy adverts on Formula One racetracks Tragic death Of Dr David Kelly (I really would like to say suicide but the jury's still out.) Taking Britain into an illegal war. Regular free hols abroad with Cliff and Co. and assorted Italian and Egyptian gentlemen. Free massages in the shower with the cooky Carole Dodgy flat purchases in Bristol via known conman. (of course, it was Cherie wot done it!) Moving heaven and earth to stop old labour "red Ken" getting to be mayor of London, and then standing back silently whilst all around him were hypocritically wringing hands and saying what a marvellous job he had done after he was ousted by Boris. Making twice resigned Mandelson a European Commisioner Personally backing the Metropolitan police chief in the murder whitewash at Stockwell Station Personally stopping the Serious Fraud Office's investigation into the Saudi Arabian arms deal. Getting off scot free from the "Cash For Peerages" scandal. Oh, with good times like these I'd hate to see the bad ones. Still, snakeoil shares must be rising even in this time of unprecedented economic gloom, because Elmer has just bought a four million pound stately pile in Buckinghamshire to add to his three million pound town house in Connaught Square and its two hundred grand mews extension. How very New Labour indeed! Psst! No Saudi money involved surely? Nah! Political memoir sales is where it's at. Hush my dirty little mouth. Sing it to me again Carole. Just once before Cherie gets home. Lay your head upon my pillow. Hold your warm and tender body close to mine. Hear the whisper of the raindrops, Blowin' soft against the window, And make believe you love me one more time, For the good times.

Yes, there were good times ladies . . . . .but I won't bother to list them here. To do so would be to violate the general ethos of the political musings on
these boards!! To take the Daily Bile out of our deliberations would be tantamount to taking fire out of Hades.
Still, it's good to stimulate comment, however much such comment was anticipated. And good, too, to coax William into giving a trial to paragraph spacings!!! |

Canada Day. Happy
Birthday Canada.
Greetings to all Canadians home or away. Especially to family and friends who are, no doubt, quaffing a wine or two down at
Kittling Ridge. I'll be celebrating with you. The Molsons and the maple syrup will be freely flowing!!

Many thanks Rennay. You should try to make it to Kamloops, it's a lovely little town up in the Rockies and the Tim Hortons coffee shop is welcoming,
especially when the snow is up to your shins!!

Good to see this thread revived, Kenny. Presumably (hopefully even), the Kenny and Wendy show can now get back on track. I've missed it's great
entertainment value. And occasionally its educational value too.
So come on, Wendy. Kenny's been lonely too long. |

Thanks for the positive comment William. I don't know whether it will be possible to run this on a day-to-day basis as before. However, occasionally there
are anniversaries that just should be included. I would certainly like to feature some of those from time to time and, if Wendy wishes to wade in with
a few Melissas, Melonies and Mirandas as she goes through her catalogues of fashion models, so much the better!!!
Today, for instance, is the anniversary of the death in 2001 of Mordecai Richler (pictured above). Also, and a very appropriate entry as it is still
Wimbledon fortnight, Pancho Gonzalez died on this date in 1995.

Should I leap into this again with both feet bearing in my mind that my reference books are on the other side of the world? Well I suppose I'm game if
Kenny is so here goes.

Well do I remember, thirty nine years ago, the Gonzalez/Passarell epic at Wimbledon, Kenny. Almost pitch dark.
A great moment in sport. |
