No comment on here from our London Community so I will!
A disaster of proportions it is difficult to comprehend even now. The investigation and inquiry will ascertain the reasons behind this disaster and perhaps for once "Lessons Will Be learned."
The reason for my writing this isn't to dwell on those who have died or injured in this tragedy but to celebrate the community around it.
Like the last few tragedies we have had, the bombing in Manchester and the attacks on the bridges in London It is the spirit of those who run to help the victims without a care about their own safety. In the case of the Grenfell tragedy, once again the Fire Service are shown to be the bravest of our civil services. Entering a burning building without a care for their own safety. Yes the police and the ambulance services showed courage as well. I have said for many years that both the police and firemen are the only groups (I am sure you can think of others) who go t work each day and their families never know if they will ever come back again.
But is not that I want to write about. No, it is the community in the Grenfell Tower disaster. Watching them on TV I see that there is no Musilm, Sunni or Shi'ite. No Sikh or Buddhist or Christian or any other religion. No black, white or any colour bar. No, there are only human beings all pulling together to help one another. Solidarity in the face of such an awful event in their community. Indeed not only local people but around the country people are assisting in any way they can.
This is the British way. When something like this happens, all animosity is put to one side and we help those who need it. I have said it so often on here that I love this country and am proud to be British and events like this tell you why I feel this way.
