This is the latest spin on their gay promotions angle. This dramatic opener is followed by
"Fifty years ago it was if you were in love with another member of the same sex."
Now those may not be the exact words used but they deliver the same meaning as is being trailed for some upcoming programme or series. I'm not sure which.
But in my view this is just spin.
If you were male and in love with another male and it all happened in private it may have been theoretically a crime - but then only if some sort of physical consummation took place which became public but you would not have been a criminal.
Lest ye forget, my dear BBC, what was a crime fifty years ago was "Importuning in public toilets". Or "Gross indecency in a public place."
Just a gentle reminder despite the rose coloured gloss you are trying to put on it.
Where oh where is love? Cue Oliver!
Well that should wake some of you up at the back there! This board has been too quiet lately.
