Just a little anecdote about "Be Mine". It was suggested at the time that it was very similar to Adam Faith's "What Do You Want". Lance Fortune (Chris Morris from Birkenhead) recalls that it was a German song (All Girls Are Made To Kiss) and he recorded it with John Barry at the same time as Adam's "What Do You Want". Adam's record went to Parlophone and Lance's went to Pye. Adam Faith's record was issued before Lance's, so it looked as if he was copying Adam.
After he made the record he went off to Aberystwyth University and when it became a hit he foolishly quit University.
The rest is not history

one of the few UK acts not to Chart in Either Australia/ Canada or the USA, but i wouldn't have expected his music to have made an impact stateside.

Contrary to popular belief Lance Fortune never signed up with Larry Parnes although Larry re-named him. The story goes that later he wanted the name back to give to Clive Powell, who later became Georgie Fame.

There were two other singles issued by Pye other than the two already mentioned.

Lance looks sort of like Anthony Newley in that photo on the sheet music. Whatever happened to Lance after his two hits?

Lance was a great guy and a very good singer but I don't know his whereabouts now. I understand he suffered a stroke a few years ago.

In the 1970's he formed, and was part of, a very good vocal group called the Stagerlees.

I've just checked out your page. Great stuff. I often wondered what happened to Lance after his 'solo' days and now I know.

I have a Dave Lee and The Staggerlees record on Oriole from 1962.
