There was Andy Capp in the Daily Mirror. Created by Reg Smythe now dead, though his creation lives on. In fact Andy Capp was so popular it begat a spin off comic for kids featuring his son.......the name of the son escapes me, needless to say he was 'a chip off the old block'. The comic was also short lived. Also in the Mirror was Garth, Useless Eustace and the Larks.
The other big ones were in the Daily Express, with Giles, Osbert Lancaster and his Pocket cartoons and the Gambols and still running and ever popular Rupert Bear.
