The one club man (Blackpool) and former England captain is reported to be winning a battle against throat cancer. Good luck Jimmy and thanks for your time at the reins of Leeds United in the mid/late 70's as manager.

When I read that he couldn't attend Alan Balls Funeral due to illness I had a feeling that it must be serious. My sincere best wishes for a speedy recovery "Gentleman Jim".

According to a report in last nights Gazette Jimmy is responding well to chemotheraphy and he has not ruled out the possibility of a trip to Wembley for Pools play-off final. He still has a sense of humour and joked about his hair loss due to the side affects of the treatment. "I never did have much hair, now I don't have any". He is due to have radiotherapy in Preston this week.

He was on Radio 5 a couple of weeks ago.The treatment has been a success so far and he is much recovered thanks to the Hospital and the care of his wife.He was very grateful and,he said, amazed at all the good wishes he received.
He sounded in fine form.A true sportsman and gentleman. |
