I'll see if I can get a good look at it on my DVDs and freeze-frame it on the big-screen TV. Perhaps I can even get a screencap to post.

Hello Grammar Hammer,
The best view I had of the medallion was in the episode "The Salt King". Looking forward to your observation. Regards, Lucy |

Thanks, Lucy. I'm working my way back through in order, and I'm only as far as "A Guest for the Gallows," so it'll be a bit before I get to "The Salt King" again.

We're finally setting up our home theater and should have a 72" diameter TV in a couple of months, so I should really be able to see some detail then! "I'd like to be a pessimist, but that is a luxury I cannot afford."

Hello Grammar Hammer,
Enjoy your amazing home theater. With that size screen you should be able to get a good view of the medallion. Regards, Lucy |

The giant television arrived today. I'll be checking on that medallion soon. Still, it will be a while before I get to "The Salt King." I'll
keep you posted.

Another sighting of the medallion?
|
The medallion has been sighted in the film "Operation X" (a.k.a. "My Daughter Joy"), from 1950. We can't be sure that it was the same one as in "The Adventures", of course. But, if it was Richard's own, then it probably was the same.

It's still me - I couldn't log in the usual way. It seems Yuku doesn't like my real name, so I have to use the initials I created for the Blue Boar Inn board, which wouldn't let me log in under my real name, either. Mr. Turnip, what can I do?!

I"m having a lot of problems with Yuku, especially in terms of replying to other posts and quoting. I can't enter any text in the message areas, and
the subject line comes up blank rather than showing the subject of the post I'm responding. I've found only the Quick Reply functions for me now. I
never had this issue with EZ Board, but I have it with both the Blue Boar and this board since they migrated to Yuku.

The Medallion in the Script

As I continue my second journey through my DVDs, I've come across something interesting: In "The Trap," the Sheriff's spy, Sir Simon, makes
mention of Robin's medallion (in an effort to imply that Robin is embezzling some of the band's takings for personal profit), and Derwent replies that
it's a "Crusader's medallion" brought back from the Holy Land. Coincidentally, there are no clear views of the medallion anywhere in this
episode.
I have to wonder whether the medallion was noticed in earlier episodes, and the writers felt it needed some explanation if Robin were to continue to wear it. This would make additional sense if it were Richard's own property. It certainly ups my need to see it close and enlarged to determine whether it is indeed a Crusader's medallion supplied by the costumer or it's Richard's own and of a different design entirely.

Lucy, I looked at "The Salt King" on the giant screen and even freeze-framed the scenes with the medallion. Unfortunately, there are no clear,
frontal views of it. However, I'm going to keep trying to get a good look at it in other episodes. I'm thinking of going back to "The
Wanderer," as I seem to recall some pretty good shots of it there.

Hello Grammar Hammer,
I can understand your obsession, I've always wondered about the medallion, what the significance was. Unfortunately we will never know the answer. We know that in the episodes it was identified as a crusader's medallion. I wondered if the medallion was Richard Greene's or was it added as a "prop"? I don't know that seeing the medallion close up will answer that question, it's just a curiosity factor. Thank you for your perseverance. Regards, Lucy |

Hello Grammar Hammer,
I re-watched "Secret Mission", there are some great views of the medallion. Perhaps on your large screen TV you can get a "close up" of the elusive medallion. Regards, Lucy |

LucyC324 wrote: Hi, Lucy- I've unfortunately run into a problem in that every time I freeze-frame, the medallion gets blurred, and I can't make out any detail. The large
screen is not helping either; it's just a bigger blur. I think asking Patricia Driscoll may well be the only way to get an answer to our question.

Hi Grammar Hammer,
Thank you for your efforts. We can ask Patricia Driscoll, but considering how long ago the series was I wouldn't expect that she would remember that detail. Thank you, Lucy |
