Readers may be interested to know that I have analysed the charts for 1950 and 1951, and produced full rankings of singles and acts based on the Chartwatch points system. I have linked to each article from my blog here (just click the hyperlinks).

Thanks. It took about a year to do. I received some help from people on here with label information, for which I express deep thanks. I have tried to give some background such as the effect of the Petrillo strikes (which seem to have benefitted British acts in 1948 ) and the emergence of new trends. Again, I welcome comments and even criticisms. If it can be improved with new information, let me know.

Got into the site earlier it looked very interesting but am now having no luck at bringing up any of the years.

Lovely stuff, Satchmo!! A quick look at the charts of the late 40's and early 50's brings back so many memories of childhood thanks to songtitles even I had long forgotten. Your attention to details indicates a man after my own heart! Nice to know I am not alone in my obsessions!! I also confer a Jimbo-style

That is amazing, fascinating reading, and so much work you've put into it. A marvellous reference work, and also very entertaining

Thank you, these comments mean a lot to me. I especially wanted the lists to be entertaining. It's remarkable how diverse the charts were in that period, which possibly reflected the immediate postwar search for new forms of popular entertainment. There was also a huge explosion of new labels in that period, which I was very keen to trace through the charts.
