Apparently, the family and friends of Frankie Howerd were understandably outraged by the programme depicting the late comic legend as a "manic sexual predator. Ray Galton, who co-wrote The Frankie Howerd Show in the fifties and sixties, spoke of his disgust, "It's very sad and pathetic that they have to do this.
"His family and friends are very worried about the programme and didn't want Channel 4 to do it. I have nothing but fond memories of Frank."
Galton was mortified by comments Howerd he was a gay sexual predator saying, "I certainly never saw him try to force himself on anybody. All they want to do is dig up dirt, his talent can't be overcome by this salacious stuff."
Channel 4 tried to defend their programme saying, "He built his entire act, and public persona, around a big lie. The loud, leering heterosexual who constantly ogled 'the birds' was in fact a secretive, insecure, homosexual."
The channel goes on to explain, "He was infamous for over 40-years - as a manic sexual predator, propositioning, leaping on, and exposing himself to any and every young man he came across, whether gay or not."
This may be old news, so I apologise to those who are already familiar with the topic. It is typical of the times we live in I guess that there is a seemingly never ending need for such gossipy tit bits. Then I suppose it always has been this way.
