I had not until now seen the episodes which have Rufus Cruikshank as Little John, and I liked his performance very much, both as a character, and as fitting the Archie Duncan mould. I remember Mr Cruikshank as an Irishman in an episode of the Roger Moore "Ivanhoe", and that's all I knew about him.
I have been reading up The Sherwood Forester, and I liked the idea that the character of Ivanhoe had itself contributed to the 'nobleman' side of Robin's character.
I read the Scott novel for the first time when the Roger Moore series was showing and was surprised to find Robin in it (as Locksley), just as I was recently when I finally read "The Once & Future King" and found him there as Robin Wood.
Steve Winders' article in Issue 7 about casting links between The Adventures and other versions of Robin was fascinating. One I might add is that Bernard Bresslaw - supporting parts in a TV episode and in the Don Taylor film - was Little John in Lionel Bart's famous disaster the stage musical "Twang".
I have probably missed this in The Forester - but which episode was being filmed when the Archie Duncan accident happened?
Best wishes to all - Roger
