In the early days his records didn't sell very well over here but the cover versions did. Frankie Vaughan's 'Tower Of Strength' and, dare I say it , Craig Douglas' 'Hundred Pounds Of Clay'. My two favourite singles of his are, 'Point Of No Return' and 'Spanish Lace'. I bet Steven was 24 hours from Southend the day he first heard 'The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance' Edited as I realise what a prat I am. McDaniels you idiot,. McDaniels. I bought his 'Point Of No Return', 'Tower Of Strength' plus a Liberty EP and an LP that wasn't released over here. I also have CD with a lot of great tracks on and I heard him singing a fine version of 'Are You Sincere' the lovely Andy Williams song that I don't believe was a hit over here. He does a very good version of 'Take Good Care Of Her' as well. I remember him touring in the early 60's with Johnny Burnette and possibly U S Bonds (though I may be wrong about that). 'Point Of No Return' was covered by Al Saxon although I believe Gene may have got higher in the chart though it wasn't a big hit. I received a mixed artist album of Burt Bacharach songs last week which includes a nice ballad by Gene called 'There Goes The Forgotten Man.' Last Edited By: dave corne Mon, 6-Jul-09 17:28:36.
