[One of Britain's most celebrated comic characters is getting his own movie!
Variety reports that a deal to bring Dan Dare to the big screen is close to being signed, with Avatar's Sam Worthington set to star.
First published in classic British comic the Eagle, Frank Hampson's Dan Dare has been an iconic sci-fi hero for decades, with Philip Pullman calling the series “the most thrilling and accomplished work ever published in the comics form in Britain.”] - says Titan Books website blog.

Warner Brothers is heading into space with "Dan Dare," closing a deal for the future rights to the British property with Sam Worthington attached to star.
Basil Iwanyk ("Clash of the Titans") will produce through his thunder road banner.
"Dan Dare" created by Frank Hampson, first appeared as a comic in 1950 and centred on a gallant chief pilot of the Interplanet Space Fleet. Time frame was the 1990's and the complex adventures were set on planets presumed to have extraterrestrial life.
Dare, described as the British equivalent of Buck Rogers, also appeared in radio programmes and a TV series, "Dan Dare: Pilot of the Future."
The rights were obtained from "Dan Dare Inc" through Colin Frewin, who exec. produces along with Dan Lin.
Worthington, who has been attached to the "Dan Dare" project for several months, recently wrapped up "The Fields" for producer Michael Mann, and will next be seen in ...blah-de-blah-de-blah.
So, our comic hero of our youth is now owned by the U.S. and, after 60 years of existence is set to conquer the world.
